Chichén Itzá tour or on your own? Real costs compared (2026)
Entrance, bus, cenote and lunch paid separately versus an all-included tour: what each option costs from Cancún and when each one makes sense.

If you are traveling from Cancún and it is your first visit, a tour with the entrance included usually costs the same or less than going on your own by bus, because the Chichén Itzá entrance (about $697 MXN for foreign visitors), the cenotes, lunch and transportation are all paid separately. Going on your own makes sense if several of you share a rental car and want to arrive at opening time.
What it costs on your own from Cancún (per person, foreign visitor)
- ADO bus, round trip: $700 to $1,000 MXN.
- Chichén Itzá entrance: $697 MXN.
- One cenote (Ik Kil lists $240 MXN): $240 MXN.
- Lunch: $250 to $400 MXN.
- Guide at the site: optional, paid separately.
- Total: $1,900 to $2,350 MXN, without a guide.
These are prices published in 2026 and they can change.
What a tour includes
Our Chichén Itzá Plus costs $1,990 MXN per adult and includes transportation from your hotel, the Chichén Itzá entrance, a guide, two cenotes (Suytún and Ik Kil), buffet lunch, drinks and free time in Valladolid.
When going on your own makes sense
- You are 3 or 4 people sharing a rental car: the cost per person drops.
- You want to be at Chichén Itzá at 8 am, before the groups.
- You want to sleep in Valladolid and see Ek Balam the next day.
When a tour makes sense
- It is your first visit and you want to understand what you see: the guide makes the difference.
- You do not want to drive 5 to 6 hours in one day.
- You want a cenote, lunch and Valladolid without organizing anything.
What almost nobody tells you
- The direct bus has few departures: you arrive late, with more people and more heat.
- Many "cheap" tours do not include the entrance and charge it at the ticket office.
- Foreign visitors pay the full rate on Sundays too.
